The answer: Former President Harry S. Truman!

Truman had advocated for a federally funded health insurance program since 1945, but it wasn't until 1965 that the bill that established Medicare was finally passed and was appropriately signed into law at the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library in Independence, Missouri.

Sixty years later, seniors still benefit from this comprehensive program.
